Golf SV. I may like this even more than the BMW 2-series active tourer. I bet if they brought it to the US the could sell, I don’t know, maybe a dozen, possibly two dozen, of them. Just make mine with a 6MT, like my Mazda5, please...

I forget just what cars you don’t get over there.
There was also the Golf Plus, now discontinued, that fit in between the Golf and Golf SV.
Golf.
Golf Plus.
Golf SV.

Looks sort of like the Golf Alltrack. I’m not sure how they’re selling, but I haven’t seen many of them around town.

If it’s a damn SUV we probably get it, but not a lot of the more interesting niche cars.

That’s not fair.

To us, or to you overseas?
Too many regulations that nobody seems to be asking for. Why can’t families of cars be lumped together for emissions and safety testing? Golf manual - that’s one model. Auto? That’s another. Wagon? Different model. AWD Golf wagon auto? That’s another model. Change it to an automatic and it’s a different model and more testing. FWD wagon? Another model...
The differences in safety, engine emissions and vapor emissions due to the different bodystyles and transmission type are probably miniscule. I don’t see why they bother, especially when it comes to new technologies like better headlights. I grew up in an era with four types of sealed beams - end of story. We must look like fools for hanging on to outdated technology way beyond its prime.
And don’t get me started on the Chicken Tax, a tariff that has outlived its usefulness. I’m sorry, but if a domestic manufacturer can’t compete on a level playing field maybe they don’t deserve to be in business, or at least in a particular segment.
So the market gets saturated with whatever the trend is. I personally want my car closer to the ground for aerodynamic and handling reasons, and i don’t need to compensate for any, er, ego problems. I don’t need to have the tallest, biggest thing on the road so that I don’t have to worry about be killed when I’m texting/reading/eating/conversing whilst behind the wheel because that’s not what your vehicle is for. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should...

They’re popular with older people. My parents own one:P

It’s a tall golf. A tolf.
It is most certainly not a Super Veloce.

Not fair for you.
I agree with all you said.
Companies need to crash test every vehicle again for the U.S. market with every engine, every bodystyle, and so on and so on. It becomes very cost in effective to offer all the cars there because they’ll need to sell X amount of cars to break even and then sell X amount of cars each year to really make a profit.
Ford could be doing really well with it’s cars if it offered more range like.
Fiesta, 3 and 5 door hatchback and saloon.
Focus saloon, 5 door hatchback and estate.
Mondeo/Fusion, saloon, 5 door hatchback and estate.
GM (Buick) could do better with cars like the Vauxhall/Opel Adam, Corsa and Astra.

That’s a Golf Plus, rather than a Golf SV though.
But ye', they were popular with older folk because of the height and marginally larger ground clearance as was our (the non U.S.) Ford Fusion which was the same in Fiesta form.

It’s a taller Golf with a larger boot space.
The just taller one was the Golf Plus.

Ok....well I can’t make a funny name for that. All I got is Tolf and Thicc Tolf.

Chance are pretty good that I’m close to your parents age, so that may explain why I like it. I do love my Mazda5 so I obviously have a thing for tall- ish, van-like vehicles.

The Golf SportsVan is simply a mk2 Golf Plus.
